Riverwalk

Project Goals:

  1. Designate waterfront access locations for the public and provide clear views of the waterfront.

  2. Preserve the coastal environment while connecting the downtown to natural, cultural, and historic resources in the St. Marks area.

  3. Revitalize the St. Marks community by planning for public spaces, infill redevelopment, walkability, and expansion of existing parking facilities without compromising the village ambiance of the St. Marks area.

The old industrial oil tank sites in the downtown are open pads ready for redevelopment and the property of the condemned Posey’s Oyster Bar, among others, are for sale. Because of these opportunities, the City of St. Marks is interested in completing the Riverwalk Master Plan so that all future new development will occur in a controlled, coordinated fashion. This means that all new infrastructure will be identified and planned for and the City will require new developments to pay their fair share of that infrastructure. Currently, the City has decided to hold off on any new development until the local Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code are updated and approved in order to identify needed infrastructure, and the St Marks Riverwalk Corridor is clearly identified with community buy-in.
